Boy, what a crazy few weeks it has been! Things have really picked up in my internship this week. I have done things from attending meetings, to scheduling my own lunch and learns, to scheduling meetings for the members of my team!
I suppose I will start with my lunch with Jon. A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I had a meeting with someone on my team who went through social media with me and taught me how to use it for business purposes. After this meeting, we ran into a man named Jon Sesso, who went through the Summit program and is now a full time IBM employee. my team mate made the connection for me, and Jon and I ended up getting lunch together the following week. We sat down and the conversation was very natural and we just discussed the reorg as well as how it relates to us personally and professionally. It was a really great experience and Jon provided excellent insight on IBM, so I figured it would be great if all of the interns got this fantastic of insight. I ended up planning a casual lunch and learn, where the Chicago interns would be able to bring their own lunch and just come sit down with Jon and I and ask questions and learn more about IBM and the reorg. Due to the construction at the Wacker office, we were unable to reserve a room so we ended up just sitting down on some couches and talking, which actually worked out really well! The casual feel to the conversation was very refreshing and was a fantastic experience. Because it went so well, Jon referred me to someone he worked with to schedule a lunch and learn for his interns as well, which happens tomorrow! Successfully putting together these lunch and learns and taking the initiative to do so definitely made me feel good and I am so happy with the turnout of these!
Along with this, I attended two meetings with my team this past week, in which they were about the reorg and transitioning the new accounts to people as well as gaining insight into the account structure and what the current plans are with this account. The meetings were super helpful and educational, I kept up with most of the lingo too! Towards the end I got a little lost, but I am proud of myself for keeping up majority of the time!
Attending meetings, but also planning them! I have put together two meeting for my manager, which she wants me to attend but it is two days after my end date :( I am wondering if I would be able to attend the meetings still, as I think they'd be very informational for me but I'll have to look into if that is a possibility. I also am planning a SWAP session for one of the people on my team, Kent, as well, which includes creating the invite, reserving the room, as well as catering the event! Kent also wants me to present some of the information at the session, which honestly leaves me a bit nervous but I am definitely up for the challenge and ready to take it on!
With just a few short weeks left of my internship, it is still amazing to me how quickly the summer flew by, and I have learned so much so far and I cannot wait to apply that to my final presentation as well as attend these meetings and present some information!
